Fifteen teams and over 40 University of the Virgin Islands students participated in HackFest 2016. UVI Announces 2016 White House Initiative HBCU All-Star

The University of the Virgin Islands is pleased to announce the student ambassador for the 2016 White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU). Joásh T. Liburd will represent UVI as one of 73 students from across 63 HBCU’s in the United States. Considered All-Stars, Liburd is recognized for his accomplishments in academics, leadership and public service. read more
Certified Public Managers Graduation St. Croix

UVI Certified Public Manager Program Graduates 30

The University of the Virgin Islands Certified Public Manager program (VI-CPM) distributed certificates to 30 graduates across two ceremonies last week. The graduation ceremony took place on Tuesday, Sept. 13 on the St. Thomas Campus and on Wednesday, Sept. 14, on the Albert A. Sheen Campus on St. Croix. Graduates of the program on both campuses spent 12 months acquiring the skills they would need to bring change, innovation and cutting-edge leadership techniques to a variety of government offices and agencies in the U.S. Virgin Islands. read more

New Higher Ed Collaboration to Advance STEM Leadership

Four diverse and prominent institutions of higher education have joined forces to conduct research on proven leadership approaches to broadening participation in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). With the generous support of a $2.9 million grant from the National Science Foundation, the University of the Virgin Islands and its partners - Fielding Graduate University, North Carolina A&T State University and the Association of American Colleges and Universities - have collaborated to launch the Center for Advancing STEM Leadership. read more

Early Federal Student Aid Application Available to College Students on October 1

Starting on Oct. 1, 2016 students seeking assistance with financing their higher education will be able to apply for student aid, rather than wait until the new calendar year. This amendment is due to significant changes to the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which were announced by United States President Barack Obama in 2015. These new changes will affect the 2017-18 application cycle. read more

Miss UVI 2016-2017, Che-Raina Warner, will compete in the 2016 National Black College Alumni (NBCA) Hall of Fame Queens pageant from Sept. 21 to Sept. 25, in Atlanta, Ga., at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. Warner will compete against other college queens from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU’s) around the nation for the title of Miss NBCA Hall of Fame. read more
