Expertise

Research interests and specialties are artificial intelligence, data mining, heuristic searches, and bioinformation.

Knowledge Discovery using data mining techniques - The main goal is to use machine learning techniques to discover models (predictive, association) from large data sets. One application is to use  data sets collected from NOAA to predict early coral bleaching in the USVI.  Additional data sets from various sources such as UC Irvine  and Kaggle repositories are explored by undergraduate students.

High-Performance Computing:  We are also focusing on speeding up  serial problems from legacy code for both shared memory and distributed memory models on a small system multi-core cluster available at the University.  Bucc consists of a head node with 2 Intel Westmere, 2.40GHz, six-core, processors and five twin compute nodes, each with two Intel 2.40GHz six-core processors. It is configured with 2 GB of RAM per core. The interconnects are InfiniBand 40Gbps.
