UVI to Delay On-Campus Re-Opening Plan for Fall 2020

The University of the Virgin Islands will delay the implementation of the Fall 2020 on-campus reopening due to concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 Reopening Plan was approved by the UVI Board of Trustees on June 20. The plan had included guidelines for the University to resume in-person instruction, while utilizing a mixed modality approach that would allow for some virtual and in-person instruction. Additionally, on-campus living and work would have commenced with the inclusion of new safety protocols and procedures. more

Members of the media are invited to cover and photograph the University of the Virgin Islands’ virtual AgDiscovery Summer Program Closing Ceremony, 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., on Friday, July 31, 2020. AgDiscovery is a summer outreach program designed to help teenagers explore careers in plant and animal science, wildlife management, agribusiness, and much more! The program allows students to learn about agriculture from university professors, scientists, and administrative professionals who work for the U.S. Government in a variety of fields. read more

UVI’s Etelman Observatory Joins Global Initiative Connecting Telescopes Worldwide

The University of the Virgin Islands’ (UVI) Etelman Observatory has joined an international collaboration of telescopes across the globe focused on studying and understanding the elusive explosions in space that lead to the emission of powerful bursts of gravitational waves. The Global Rapid Advanced Network Devoted to the Multi-messenger Addicts (GRANDMA) collaboration is a worldwide partnership of 25 ground-based telescopes in Europe, Asia, Australia, North America, and the Caribbean read more

UVI Awarded $20M National Science Foundation Grant for VI-EPSCoR's “Ridge to Reef” Project

The Virgin Islands Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (VI-EPSCoR) has been awarded funding for its fourth National Science Foundation (NSF) EPSCoR grant titled “Ridge to Reef”. The Ridge to Reef (R2F) project is a five-year, $20 million grant dedicated to addressing the impacts of changing environmental conditions on small island social-ecological systems such as those in the U.S. Virgin Islands. read more

UVI Childcare Lab & Diagnostic Center Provides Virtual Childcare Services

Educators at the University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) Inclusive Childcare Lab and Diagnostic Center are using technology to keep their preschool students connected while the center is temporarily closed due to COVID-19. In the morning, students and their parents log on to Zoom for virtual circle time with teachers to listen to stories, play games, practice counting and learn the alphabet. read more

University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) President Dr. David Hall addressed the UVI community on Tuesday, June 30, during a virtual town hall meeting to discuss the University’s fall 2020 semester plans and operations, in light of the continued challenges posed by COVID-19. UVI School of Nursing’s Accreditation Reaffirmed

The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) School of Nursing’s (SON) accreditation has been reaffirmed by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). The ACEN Board of Commissioners (BOC) granted continuing accreditation to the baccalaureate nursing program in April 2020. The SON will remain accredited for the next seven years and is scheduled for its next evaluation visit for Fall 2027. read more
