UVI Invites New Students to Virtual Orientation for 2022 Spring Semester

New students are invited to begin the new year with a bang at the University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) 2022 Spring Semester Orientation to be held via Zoom on Wednesday, Jan. 5. Orientation activities for students enrolled on both campuses start at 9:30 a.m. and continue until noon. Students will have the opportunity to meet instructors and other students, attend virtual campus tours, and learn more about UVI and its many resources, clubs and initiatives. Orientation is required for all new and transfer students. read more

Second UVI Student Participates in HBCU White House Press Briefing

For the second time this semester, a University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) communication student enjoyed the opportunity of a lifetime – the chance to participate in a White House press briefing. Nadege Barber, sophomore, communication minor and president of the student group UVI Association of Black Journalists (UVIABJ), joined 18 student journalists from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in a virtual White House (WH) Press Briefing with Senior Advisor Cedric Richmond on Nov.18.   read more

Miss UVI Reigns Supreme at National College Queens Competition

University of the Virgin Islands student ambassador, Miss UVI Jackeima Flemming, was crowned Miss National Black College Alumni (NBCA) Hall of Fame 2021-2022 on Saturday, Nov. 13, in Atlanta, Ga. Flemming competed among 19 other contestants from other Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and is the third UVI queen to bring the coveted crown and title home. read more

Dr. Tai Hunte-Ceasar Named Founding Dean of UVI School of Medicine

The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) is delighted to announce the appointment of Virgin Islander, Dr. Tai Hunte-Ceasar, as founding dean of the UVI S. Donald Sussman School of Medicine. The medical school is on track to becoming the first Historically Black College and University (HBCU) medical school to be established since 1975 and the only public medical school in the nation. It will also be the first accredited and English-speaking medical school in the Caribbean.  read more

UVI Board of Trustees Approves UVI School of Medicine Strategic Plan; Elects Former VI Gov. John P. de Jongh, Jr. to the Board & Grants Trustee Emeritus Status to Dr. Yvonne Thraen

In the regular session of its quarterly meeting on Saturday, Oct. 23, 2021, via Zoom, the University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) Board of Trustees voted unanimously to approve the draft strategic plan, including the mission and vision statements, for the UVI School of Medicine (UVISOM) project. With approval from the Board, the University plans to submit these required documents as part of its application for preliminary accreditation to the Liaison Committee for Medical Education (LCME) in late November or early December. read more
