Miss UVI to Vie for National HBCU Title

Miss UVI 2018-2019, Kendra Kent, will compete in the 2018 National Black College Alumni (NBCA) Hall of Fame Queens pageant from Sept. 26 to Sept. 30, in Atlanta, GA., at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. The University of the Virgin Islands Receives First Generation Scholarship Grant from The Coca-Cola Foundation

The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) has received a $150,000 donation from The Coca-Cola Foundation to provide scholarships to students who represent the first generation in their family to attend college. The grant will fund four-year scholarships for four UVI students. The students selected to receive the Coca-Cola First Generation Scholarship are Leeann Knight, Shania Joseph, Naseem Jamil, and Naeem Sealey. The recipients will be eligible for renewal if they remain full-time students in good standing. read more

The University of the Virgin Islands continues to monitor all activity associated with Tropical Storm Isaac as it approaches the Leeward Islands. Both campuses are reviewing the emergency response plans and beginning preparedness activities as necessary. The University of the Virgin Islands Youth Ocean Explorers Program Prepares VI Youth for STEM Careers

On Saturday, Sept. 1, the Youth Ocean Explorers (YOE) program held a Seashore Trek event at John Brewers Bay, marking the close of the 3rd annual YOE, four-week program hosted by the Virgin Islands Marine Advisory Service (VIMAS). The Youth Ocean Explorers program, the substantially more ambitious offshoot of the five-day Coral Reef Discovery Week of several years ago, is open to students in grades seven through twelve. read more

The University of the Virgin Islands to Receive $11 Million in Grant Allotment

The U.S. Department of Education Secretary Betsy De Vos announced on Tuesday, August 28, 2018, that under the Emergency Assistance to Institutions of Higher Education Program, $63 Million in new federal assistance will be awarded to 47 institutions of higher education. Through this initiative, the University of the Virgin Islands will receive an allotment of $11,174.451, which is the largest amount allotted to any of the institutions selected. read more

Anderson Family Establishes $2 Million Endowment in Support of UVI Students

The University of the Virgin Islands received a transformational gift from the Marion & John E. Anderson Foundation today, August 30, in a ceremony which occurred on the University’s Albert A. Sheen Campus. UVI is among a group of non-profit organizations in the territory that were selected to be a part of the Family’s philanthropic efforts in the aftermath of Hurricanes Irma and Maria. This investment will be among the most significant gifts the University has received in recent years. read more

First Cohort of Students Graduate from UVI at USM

Thirty-three students graduated from the University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) at the University of St Martin (USM) on Aug. 18, 2018 at the Belair Community Center in Sint Maarten. The graduating UVI at USM class is the first cohort of students to have completed their respective degrees under a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the University of St. Martin (USM). Through the MOU, students from St. Maarten/St. Martin are able to study at UVI without having to leave the island. read more
