Fans of the Reichhold Center for the Arts (RCA) may have noticed a new “installation” at the entrance to the once-famed performing arts venue, now closed due to extensive damage from the 2017 hurricanes. The new perimeter fence surrounding the center’s grounds is a positive sign explains RCA Director Denise Humphrey. “We anticipate resuming reconstruction very soon and the fencing is the initial step in securing the site for rebuilding,” she said.
In the meantime, the Reichhold Center for the Arts remains active in the local arts arena both in front and behind the scenes. The RCA team recently completed work on staging/set design for the Prince and Princess Competition as part of the VI Carnival festivities. And on May 24, they held the first “Sessions by the Shore” concert for RCA donors and season subscribers.
This summer RCA will host its annual Youth Moviemaking Workshop from June 10 to July 27 for students ages 11-16. The intense seven-week hands-on training experience is designed to motivate, educate, and build practical skills in digital film production culminating in a "Red Carpet Premiere" where students can exhibit their films to the community.
Following the summer program, RCA will host the 2nd Annual Blue Horizon Concert on Sunday, August 18, on the Herman E. Moore Golf Course on the Orville E. Kean Campus on St. Thomas. The event will feature legendary reggae band UB40 in addition to local opening acts. Stay tuned for more event details!
