A proud graduate of UVI's class of 1997, Horace T. Brooks fondly recalls his time at the university as the best years of his life. Immersed in the vibrant campus community, he embraced various leadership roles, including President of the Student Government Association (SGA) and the Future Business Leaders of America/Phi Beta Lambda (FBLA/PBL).
After his graduation, he initially ventured into the banking sector. However, it was his pivotal role as the Confidential Assistant to the 6th Elected Governor, The Honorable Charles W. Turnbull, where Horace found his true passion for service and leadership.
After his tenure in government concluded, Horace applied for a managerial role in the hospitality industry but was denied. As a result, he humbly accepted a Front Desk Agent position at The Ritz Carlton, St. Thomas, recognizing it as an opportunity for rapid learning and growth. Today, he serves as the General Manager for Courtyard by Marriott in Key Largo, Florida.
Horace acknowledges both the triumphs and setbacks as an integral part of his journey. From his tenure at Playa Largo Resort and Spa, which he describes as his most challenging experience, to the opening of The Ritz Carlton Rancho Mirage in California, to his role as Assistant Director of USVI Bureau Motor Vehicles, Horace never shied away from undertaking challenging assignments.
Horace and his three siblings are all alums of UVI. In addition to his managerial duties, he serves as a thought leader and has lectured at 13 schools, including UVI.
