Important Notice: The Bachelors of Arts (BA) in Accounting is currently transitioning to the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Accounting degree paradigms. Admission to the Bachelor of Arts in the School of Business programs will not accept new students after the Spring of 2017. The School of Business is pleased to inform applicants, students and community partners that the newly revised Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Accounting curriculum will be offered on both the Albert A. Sheen Campus on St. Croix and the St. Thomas Campus beginning in the Fall of 2016. Students interested in admission to the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree programs are urged to meet with an academic advisor as soon as possible.
The bachelor of arts degree in accounting has been constructed on the assumption that contemporary study in accounting must build upon a broad base of liberal education. The plan of study is intended to develop the students’ capacity to make sound judgments in their eventual positions in management and administration and to endow them with the historical perspective necessary for an understanding of human values and motivations and the relationships between economic activity and society as a whole. All requirements for the degree can be completed on either campus.
A graduate with an accounting major has a broad exposure to business concepts and in depth knowledge of the accounting discipline. The alumni of this program would be prepared for entry level positions in the accounting profession and have sufficient accounting credits to sit for the Certified Public Accountants (CPA) and the Certified Management Accountants (CMA) examinations in most United States jurisdictions.
Preparation for the CPA and CMA examinations are integrated in the curriculum and the School offers courses specifically for the purpose of preparing candidates to take these professional examinations.
Study for your Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and prepare for the professional exams as set forth by the Institute of Management Accountants (CMA) and the United States, State Boards of Accountancy (CPA) while you are studying for your degree.
Our curriculum is designed to meet the 150 hour educational requirement rule for CPA licensure1.
The School of Business is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). The bachelor of arts degree in accounting is one of the degrees accredited by this international business program accrediting body.
