Emergency Preparedness & Communication Methods

UVI Community Advised to Prepare for Tropical Storm Jerry

Students & Employees Urged to Take Precautions Immediately

The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) is asking all students, faculty, and staff to cover and secure all computers, printers, and sensitive equipment before leaving campus tomorrow, in advance of the arrival of Tropical Storm Jerry. Swells, rain, gusty winds, and flooding are expected and may impact campus and coastal areas.

Guidance for Students

  • Stay off beaches and avoid unnecessary time near the shoreline, where surf and rip currents may become life-threatening.
  • Charge cellphones and devices in advance; expect possible power outages and intermittent internet/Wi-Fi access.
  • On-campus residents should rely on Resident Assistants (RAs) for guidance and assistance as needed.

Guidance for Faculty & Staff

  • Cover computers, printers, and other sensitive equipment, especially in flood-prone or open areas. Plastic sheeting or protective covers should be applied now.
  • Contact the Physical Plant immediately if you need supplies or assistance with covering equipment:
    • Albert A. Sheen Campus, St. Croix: (340) 692-4171
    • Orville E. Kean Campus, St. Thomas: (340) 693-1500
  • Be vigilant for weather updates, and plan to adjust schedules or return times depending on storm conditions.
