Keisha L. Richards’ journey to becoming the CEO of the St. Thomas Federal Credit Union is anything but conventional. Before setting her sights on finance, Keisha explored a career in cosmetology. However, after a brief stint in the field, she realized it wasn’t the path she wanted. She transitioned into construction, working for Island Block, and later became a bank teller, sparking a newfound interest in finance.
As a working mother, Keisha attended the University of the Virgin Islands part-time, graduating in 2016. UVI provided an ideal setting for her, fostering in-person learning where she could interact directly with professors and fellow students. Keisha’s story exemplifies how UVI empowers adult learners, helping them bring real-world experiences into the classroom and giving them the tools to succeed across a variety of professions.
Her education has proven invaluable in her current role, where regulatory compliance and clear communication are essential. UVI, she says, helped refine her analytical skills and strengthened her writing abilities, both critical to her work in managing client relationships and ensuring regulatory standards.
Kiesha is a Senior Banking Executive with more than 25 years of success in the banking, hospitality, and construction product industries. Her experience spans numerous leadership roles, including her prior position as Vice President of Regional Operations at Banco Popular de Puerto Rico. She is also a managing member of Solum Group LLC, a property rehabilitation firm, and serves as the Managing Director of The Compliance Corner®, which focuses on regulatory compliance and personal and professional development.[AK1] [2]
Beyond her leadership at the St. Thomas Federal Credit Union, Keisha is an active board member for CU*South and Govern for Impact. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from UVI and a Graduate Certificate in Auditing from Walden University, along with numerous professional certifications in risk management, human resources, and internal auditing.
Keisha Richards' story reflects the resilience and determination that UVI instills in its alumni, preparing them to lead and inspire in diverse fields.
