terrestrial wildlife, bats, ecology, physiology, immunology, infectious diseases, conservationBiography
Marianne Moore, PhD, cultivates a community learning environment where she can support students’ educational, professional, and personal development and everyone is comfortable and can support each other. She uses active and project-based learning to instruct students in organismal, immunological, and ecological subjects and emphasizes critical thinking, workshops, discussions, and research in her courses. She provides opportunities for students to pursue their interests whenever relevant. Moore completed her Bachelor’s degree at the Evergreen State College and her PhD at Boston University. With a particular emphasis on bats, research activities include studies on the ecological requirements of wildlife and host-pathogen interactions. Since 2007, she has investigated the emerging fungal disease white-nose syndrome, which is decimating many hibernating North American populations. Now, she is expanding her research in collaboration with UVI students and faculty and will use a combination of field, wet lab, and computational methods to explore, understand, and conserve USVI terrestrial wildlife.
