Members of the media are invited to cover and photograph the University of the Virgin Islands Athletic Department Media Day from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 18, in the Sports and Fitness Center on the Orville E. Kean Campus on St. Thomas.
UVI Athletic director Dr. Jerel Drew will present the 2021-22 men’s and women’s basketball team and discuss the upcoming UVI-HBCU Basketball Classic. Head men’s basketball coach Alfonzo Duncan and head women’s coach Niki Collins will be in attendance to officially introduce their teams and discuss their expectations for the UVI-HBCU Basketball Classic and the season as a whole.
Following opening remarks by Dr. Drew and the head coaches, the media will be encouraged to ask questions followed by one-on-one interviews. Student-athletes will be made available to questions and interviews as pre-determined by the head coaches.
The Buccaneer basketball season begins on Oct. 29, with a trip to Sumter, S.C. to take on Morris College in a men’s and women’s doubleheader. UVI takes the court on Nov. 3, on the first day of the UVI-HBCU basketball classic and it will be the first home game for the Buccaneers in over 1,000 days after COVID-19 Pandemic canceled the 2020-21 season.
