Founded in 1962, UVI is a public, co-ed, land-grant HBCU in the United States Virgin Islands.
Members of the media are invited to cover and photograph the University of the Virgin Islands Caribbean Green Technology Center (CGTC) 2nd Annual Energy and Sustainability Fair and Press Conference on Oct. 28, 2023, in the Elridge Blake Sports and Fitness Center on the Orville E. Kean Campus on St. Thomas.
The press conference will take place at 9 a.m. with UVI’s Director of CGTC, Dr. Gregory Guannel, Jonisha Aubain, UVI alumna, Ph.D. candidate and student researcher of the Worldwide Universities Network, Kyle Fleming, Director of the VI Energy Office and WAPA Board Chairman, Chavante` Marsh, Water and Power Authority (VIWAPA) Director of Project Management, Michael Jaffurs, Deputy Director of VI Energy Office, Jeannine Francis-Brown, UVI Program Manager and Nikita Beck, UVI Research Technician.
Virgin Islands Gov. Albert Bryan, Jr. will give the keynote address.
CGTC in partnership with the Virgin Islands Energy Office (VIEO) hosts the fair with the theme, “Accelerating Resilience in the U.S. Virgin Islands” will provide attendants with knowledge on how to reduce their electric bill, and how to increase their energy independence as well as a venue to connect the general public and businesses to products, services, and options to strengthen their energy systems and showcase ways to increase their ability to adapt to disruptions and prepare for an uncertain climate future.
Throughout the day there will be live demonstrations, educational presentations, a technology showcase, and interactive vendor exhibits featuring governmental and non-governmental agencies, organizations, and private businesses in energy and sustainability-related industries.
The general public is invited to attend.
