The University of the Virgin Islands Association of Black Journalists (UVIABJ) is proud to announce the third Annual Journalism Summit, centered around the theme "Media Matters: Navigating a Changing Landscape." This year's summit promises to be an inspiring experience for all, providing a platform for engaging discussions and invaluable networking opportunities.  

 

The event is scheduled for Nov. 10, 5:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. and Nov. 11, 9:45 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. via Zoom Videoconferencing. Those interested in joining in-person on either the St. Croix or St. Thomas campuses are encouraged to email uviabj@gmail.com for further information. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage in discussions, ask questions, and network with the speakers, fostering valuable connections in the field of journalism and media. 

 The UVIABJ Journalism Summit aims to explore the ever-evolving media landscape and its significance in our interconnected world. In a dynamic and rapidly changing industry, it is essential for aspiring journalists and communication professionals to stay updated and adapt to new trends and technologies. 

 

The summit features a lineup of distinguished media industry influences, including: 

  • Lisa Smith – Director of Impacting Communities and KDKA-TV Host 
  • Jennifer Martarangas-King – Vice President of VIYA 
  • Dr. Karen Carty – Athletic Director of Buccaneers Sports and E-sports Network  
  • Curlis Phillip – Publisher/Marketing Strategist 
  • Don Matthews – Marketing Director and Owner of FJX 
  • Lawrence LaBee – Fan Journey Manager and Marketing Strategist of NFL

The University of the Virgin Islands Association of Black Journalists (UVIABJ) is a student-led organization dedicated to promoting diversity and excellence in journalism.
