The workshop will be held at the University of the Virgin Islands’ Albert A. Sheen Campus on St. Croix in the Research and Extension Center Room 133 from 9 a.m. to noon. This Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (SARE) Program workshop will highlight the appropriate use of PPE and the significance of protecting your eyes, ears/hearing, and respiratory system.

Farmers, agriculture outreach workers, and others interested in using PPE for various farming activities are invited to attend. Registration is free. The workshop instructors will be Vanessa Forbes, extension agent II; Meridith Prince, associate professor of Process Technology UVI/OPT Training Supervisor, and Dr. Amy Dreves, extension specialist III-Pest Management and Extension Associate Professor.

“There is a need to increase the awareness of persons in the farming community about how to safely protect themselves from the occupational hazards that exist on farms. The use of PPE is an important aspect of farm safety that everyone should be attentive to,” said UVI Associate Director of the School of Agriculture Cooperative Extension Service, Stafford Crossman, who continued by saying: “The UVI SOA Cooperative Extension Service, through its SARE program, is pleased to offer this training to promote and encourage more positive attitudes and behavior of the farming community towards improving their safety, health, and wellbeing.”
