Founded in 1962, UVI is a public, co-ed, land-grant HBCU in the United States Virgin Islands.
The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) will reopen on Thursday, Aug. 15, following the passing of Hurricane Ernesto. UVI employees are expected to return to work at their regularly scheduled times. However, employees are asked to coordinate with their supervisors if they anticipate challenges.
Orientation events on St. Thomas have been rescheduled. The New and Transfer Student Convocation, originally scheduled for Thursday, will now be held at noon on
Monday, Aug. 19, in the Ralph M. Paiewonsky Library on the Orville E. Kean Campus.
Additionally, students who did not attend the Saturday, Aug. 10, orientation are asked to attend the rescheduled orientation, which will be held on
at 8 a.m on Friday, Aug. 16, in the Library on St. Thomas.
Residence Hall check-in will also resume on Friday, Aug. 16, at noon and will continue over the weekend
until all students are checked in. Students are asked to contact the Office of Residence

UVI President Dr. Safiya George’s State of the University Address scheduled for Thursday on the St. Thomas Campus has been canceled, however the address on St. Croix will continue as planned on Friday, Aug. 16. Residence Hall Move-in Day on the Albert A. Sheen Campus on St. Croix will be held on Friday, Aug. 16, from 8:30 a.m. to noon for new students.
