The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) Lady Buccaneer basketball team struggled offensively Thursday night in an 89-28 loss to the Lady Bearcats of Rust College at the Kinzell Lawson Gymnasium in Holly Springs, Mississippi. UVI falls to 0-10 on the season and 0-6 in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC) play. 

 

Freshman guard Ashukamayah Phillips, the Lady Bucs leading scorer, recorded 12 points in the contest. Phillips has scored in double digits in six of her team’s 10 games this season. 

 

Freshman forward Jada Isaac added nine rebounds and two blocks on the defensive end of the court for the Lady Buccaneers. 

 

For Rust College, Diamond Sweats had 19 points to lead her team.  

 

The Lady Buccaneers close out their road trip in Mississippi as they take on Tougaloo College on Saturday, January 13 in another GCAC conference game. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. CST. This matchup can be viewed on Channel 120 of the HBCU+ app.
