Orientation activities for new and transfer students at the University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) are scheduled this week to introduce students to campus life and the many resources available on both campuses. On the Albert A. Sheen Campus on St. Croix, orientation activities will be conducted virtually on Wednesday, Jan. 3, starting at 11 a.m., while activities on the Orville E. Kean Campus on St. Thomas will take place on Thursday, Jan. 4, in the School of Business Building from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Dr. Colvin Georges, Jr., UVI dean of Students on St. Croix, is looking forward to welcoming students as they embark on their educational journey. “At UVI, you will be surrounded by faculty, staff, and fellow students who are ready to support you,” he said. “Our Student Affairs team, including the Dean of Students Office, Counseling Services, Career Services, Residence Life, Student Activities, and Health Services, are fully committed to nurturing your academic, personal, and professional development. As you navigate through this transformative chapter, we invite you to connect with each office, where opportunities to thrive are abundant and our staff is passionate about propelling you towards excellence."
During orientation, students will be introduced to many essential resources such as the computer lab and library, Health Services, residence halls, and Information Technology. Additional activities include presentations about campus security, financial aid, clubs and organizations.
Dr. Leslyn Tonge, interim dean of Student Affairs stated, "I am thrilled to welcome new and transfer students to the Orville E. Kean campus this spring. With great anticipation, we are preparing for an exciting and informative orientation that will help students navigate their journey at UVI. Our goal is to foster a vibrant and inclusive environment for all our students. With this in mind, I look forward to the shared experiences, collaborative learning, and the unique contributions each individual will be bringing to UVI.”
Classes begin on both campuses on Monday, Jan. 8, 2024. The New Student Convocation, a formal welcome ceremony, will take place on Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2024 on the St. Croix campus.
