About
Founded in 1962, UVI is a public, co-ed, land-grant HBCU in the United States Virgin Islands.
University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) graduate assistant for athletics administration Taylor Nunley has been selected for the third annual National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Governing and Leadership Academy (GLA) which will be held on April 4, 2024, at Park University in Missouri.
The GLA aims to provide training and enhance leadership among athletic administrators and is available to minorities or females working in their institution's athletics department, regardless of their position. All attendees were nominated by their athletic conference offices to attend. Of the 50 participants, Nunley was the only individual selected to represent the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC).
“I am excited that Taylor was selected to represent UVI and the GCAC at NAIA Governing Leadership Academy,” said director of athletics, Dr. Karen Carty. “She is an integral part of making our operation run and the things she will learn at the GLA will add invaluable skills to her administrative toolbox.”
Nunley, a native of Cleveland, Ohio, is in her first year as a graduate student in the Master of Business Administration program on the Orville E. Kean campus at the University of the Virgin Islands. She joined the UVI Athletics Department in August 2023. Her duties include assisting the athletics director, senior woman leader, and coaches as well as other staff members with day-to-day operations of the department, while also leading individualized tasks that enhance the experience of the student-athletes.
