Due to heavy rains expected this week, organizers at the University of the Virgin Islands’ (UVI) Reichhold Center for the Arts (RCA) have decided to move the location of the Blue Horizon UB40 Concert from the outdoor golf course on the Orville E. Kean campus to the Elridge Blake Sports and Fitness Center. The concert will still take place as scheduled on Sunday, August 18, at 6 p.m. Gates open at 5 p.m.

“Planning an event of this magnitude involves a lot of advance preparation including building the stage and making sure all of the equipment is set up in advance,” explained RCA Director, Denise Humphrey. “In order to ensure we have everything in place for Sunday’s event, we made the decision to switch the venue indoors. On the upside, the Sports & Fitness Center offers ample parking, seating and is air conditioned,” she said.

The concert lineup includes opening performances by Virgin Islands bands, RVP Band from St. John, Reggae Dynasty and Dub Lab Reggae Band. Food and drinks will be on sale by local vendors.

In addition, to ensure residents of St. John have a convenient way to return home after the concert, RCA has partnered with Transportation Services of St. John to offer an exclusive package to the St. John community. The package includes one general admission ticket to the concert; one-way return ground transportation from UVI to Redhook; and a one-way return ferry ride to Cruz Bay departing Red Hook at 1 am. Packages are $100 per person and are available through Transportation Services of St. John. The package must be purchased by August 17, and does not include the ferry ride to St. Thomas or transportation to UVI.

The concert is part of RCA’s Annual Blue Horizon Concert series and the final show on UB40’s official U.S. tour, “Red Red Wine Tour”. The tour coincides with the recent release of the legendary band’s 45th Anniversary album, UB45, bringing fans special live performances of their worldwide hit singles with “Red Red Wine,” “Food For Thought,” “(I Can’t Help) Falling In Love With You,” and more, in addition to new songs from UB45.

Concert ticket sales support the restoration efforts of the Reichhold Center for the Arts and the Addie Ottley Community Service Scholarship Fund which supports UVI students studying communications. Tickets are on sale at https://www.uvi.edu/reichhold/blue-horizons-concert.html and at the following outlets: the Virgin Islands Council on the Arts office in downtown Charlotte

Amalie, Kween Vee Smoothies in Emancipation Gardens and Red Hook, and the Music Source in Havensight, across from the US Post Office, dock side. General admission tickets are $75 per person.

The production is funded in part by the Virgin Islands Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts, the USVI Department of Tourism, Division of Festivals, Viya, St. Thomas Federal Credit Union and DaVybe.
