The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) is pleased to announce the establishment of the Rehena E. Brathwaite Industrious Endowment Scholarship Fund, thanks to the generous support of Bridget J. Industrious-Dorsey and the Dorsey Family. The endowed scholarship fund, created in partnership with the Foundation for the University of the Virgin Islands, aims to promote the advancement of education and the development of a sustainable workforce among Virgin Islanders.

Under the terms of the agreement, the family contributed a charitable gift of $10,000 to create an endowed scholarship fund.  Endowed scholarships are permanently held by the Foundation for the University of the Virgin Islands (FUVI) where they are invested to reap strong returns.  Scholarships are then awarded from the accrued interest.  Funds can be applied towards the student's outstanding tuition and fees payment, with any excess funding allocated for books and other expenses.

“Endowment gifts, such as the Rehena E. Brathwaite Industrious Endowment Scholarship Fund, are designed to have a lasting impact for generations to come,” said Dr. Pamela Moolenaar-Wirsiy, interim vice president for Institutional Advancement. “The University of the Virgin Islands is grateful for the generosity of Bridget J. Industrious-Dorsey and the Dorsey Family, whose support will help shape the future of Virgin Islanders through education and workforce development.”

The Rehena E. Brathwaite Industrious Endowment Scholarship Fund is dedicated to supporting the personal and professional development of Virgin Islanders, in line with the vision and legacy of philanthropy left by Rehena E. Brathwaite Industrious. A beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, Brathwaite Industrious was married to Bishop Dr. William A. Industrious and placed a strong emphasis on faith in God and the value of education.

“On behalf of my family and I, it is a privilege to honor the life and legacy of my late grandmother, Rehena E. Brathwaite Industrious through philanthropic efforts at the University of the Virgin Islands,” said Dr. Andre’a J. Dorsey, UVI faculty. “This endowment fund is a testament to my grandmother’s commitment to the values of faith, family and education. She was a guiding light to youths in her church and empowered her family to pursue their aspirations through education. With this endowment, we cement a legacy in her honor that will continue to bless others in our community.”
