The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) is thrilled to invite all alumni and friends to join in the festivities of Homecoming 2024. This exciting event will take place from Oct. 26 to Nov. 3, offering a week-long celebration filled with music, sports, parties, and more.
“Homecoming 2024 promises to be an unforgettable experience,” said Homecoming Committee Member Dr. Pamela Moolenaar-Wirsiy, dean of Innovation and student success at UVI. “We have an exciting array of events planned on the St. Croix and St. Thomas campuses.”
"I extend a special invitation to the UVI alumni to come back to our alma mater by the sea to celebrate, reminisce, and reconnect,” said UVI President Dr. Safiya George, who is also a UVI alumna. “I also extend an invitation to the entire community to join us. The Homecoming Committee has planned many fun-filled events and activities for the community to enjoy.”
Homecoming 2024 will kick off on Oct. 26, at 6:00p.m. with the President's Reception, held at the Great Hall on the Albert A. Sheen (AAS) Campus. Attendees will have the opportunity to mingle and reconnect with fellow alumni while enjoying a Sip & Paint event. This will be followed by a series of events, including the Faculty/Staff/Student/Alumni Basketball Game and Tailgate on Oct. 27, at the AAS Campus.
On Oct. 28, UVI will showcase the incredible talents of its students, staff and alumni with "UVI's Got Talent," a talent competition with exciting prizes. The event will take place at the AAS Campus, providing a platform for participants to showcase their skills and entertain the audience.
For those who enjoy games of chance, Casino Night Party on Oct. 29, will offer a variety of exciting games such as Bingo, Dominoes, Pokeno, and Uno. This lively event, held at the AAS Campus, will provide a fun-filled evening for all attendees.
The UVI Business Showcase on Oct. 30, will feature alumni and student vendors displaying and selling their unique products. This event will take place on both the St. Croix and St. Thomas campuses, offering a diverse range of merchandise for purchase.
On Halloween night, Oct. 31, UVI will host thrilling Basketball Games and Community Trunk or Treat event at the Elridge W. Blake Sports and Fitness Center on the OEK Campus. Handsomely decorated Halloween-themed trunks, music, and giveaways will delight children and adults from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., at the Trunk or Treat, which is free for children wearing costumes and adults. Then the Lady Buccaneers will take on the Virgin Islands Senior Women’s National Team in an exhibition game at 6 p.m. Followed by the UVI Buccaneers Men Basketball Team who will go head-to-head with the BVI All-Stars in an exhibition game that begins at 8 p.m. The entrance fee is $5. The basketball game is free to current students. After the game there will be an adult costume party in the UVI 13D Research and Strategy Innovation Center, with awesome prizes for the best costume.
The festivities continue on Nov. 1, with a Campus Field Day on the OEK Campus. This lively event will feature music, various sporting activities and competitions, providing a vibrant and energetic atmosphere for all attendees.
The highlight of Homecoming 2024 will be the Reichhold Center for the Arts’ Sessions on the Floor Homecoming Concert co-hosted by President George at 7 p.m. on Nov. 2, on the Elridge W. Blake Sports and Fitness Center on the OEK Campus. This highly anticipated event will showcase live musical performances, by La Voix, Louis Taylor, Broc Lee, Lourdes and Sherwin Williams, creating an unforgettable night of entertainment and celebration.
To conclude the week-long festivities, UVI will host a Beach Party on Nov. 3, at Brewers Bay Beach, located on the OEK Campus. Attendees can relax, soak up the sun, and enjoy the beautiful beach while reminiscing about their time at UVI.
Packages for Homecoming 2024 are available for purchase, with different options to suit individual preferences. The AAS Events package and OEK Events package are priced at $100, while special $30 packages are available for students for events on their respective campuses. If you want to attend just one event, single ticket prices are $20 each. Early bird pricing is available at deep discounts until Friday, Oct. 18.
