About
Founded in 1962, UVI is a public, co-ed, land-grant HBCU in the United States Virgin Islands.
As part of the University of the Virgin Islands’ (UVI) celebration of Homecoming 2024, the Reichhold Center of the Arts (RCA) and UVI President, Dr. Safiya George, invite the public to “Sessions on the Floor,” a free musical concert on Saturday, Nov. 2. The concert is one of the final events in a weeklong schedule of activities planned on both campuses to engage alumni, students, faculty, staff and the VI community with the University.
The event will take place at 7 p.m. in the Elridge W. Blake Sports and Fitness Center on the Orville E. Kean Campus on St. Thomas. The evening kicks off with a cocktail hour including a cash bar, tapas and entertainment by DJ Pete. Co-hosted by Dionne Donadelle, the event features live performances by local bands and solo artists including La Voix, Louis Taylor, Broc Lee, Lourdes, and Sherwin Williams.
“UVI Homecoming Week has been an incredible opportunity to reconnect and network with alumni, showcase UVI talent and engage with the community,” said Dr. George. “At UVI, we are proud to be an integral part of the Virgin Islands community and invite one and all to join us for an evening of great music and celebration of our UVI pride.”
RCA Sessions is a live concert series exclusively spotlighting Virgin Islands talent. The concerts are held in different settings while the Reichhold Center for the Arts facility undergoes reconstruction. “We are excited to bring together such a diverse group of local performers to create a one-of-a-kind concert that will surprise and delight,” said RCA Director Denise Humphrey. There is no cover charge for the event, however an RSVP is required due to limited seating.
