The University of the Virgin Islands Center for Excellence in Leadership and Learning (UVI CELL) proudly announces that its St. Croix Program Manager, Adryann Glenn, has been selected as a 2025 Global Freedom Fellow by the Incarceration Nations Network (INN). This prestigious fellowship unites global leaders in justice reform, empowering formerly incarcerated individuals to drive transformative change worldwide.

The 2025 Global Freedom Fellowship (GFF) will bring together 14 fellows from 12 countries, including Mexico, Ghana, New Zealand, and Ireland, for a two-week immersive program in South Africa, culminating in a landmark event at the Nelson Mandela Foundation in Johannesburg on March 25, 2025. This initiative equips fellows with trauma-informed leadership training, advocacy workshops, and cross-cultural exchanges, positioning them as innovators and changemakers in global justice reform.

A Champion for Reentry Education in the U.S. Virgin Islands

Glenn has been instrumental in reentry education initiatives, working to create second chances for justice-involved individuals in the U.S. Virgin Islands. His work includes:

  • UVI CELL Education Platforms for Incarcerated Individuals – These forward-thinking digital learning initiatives extend education access to justice-involved populations, allowing individuals to earn high school diplomas and career and technical education certifications, equipping them for meaningful employment upon release.
  • Facilitating UVI CELL’s Residential Substance Abuse Treatment Program – A collaboration with the Virgin Islands Bureau of Corrections that integrates evidence-based rehabilitation programs, including:
  • Thinking for a Change (T4C) – A cognitive-behavioral program focused on decision-making and social problem-solving skills.
  • AARC (Acknowledgement, Agency, Reciprocity, and Clarity) of Justice – A transformational reentry program designed to prepare returning citizens for workforce reintegration.
  • Facilitating monthly Reentry Action Group Meetings and spearheading Second Chance Month initiatives.

Through these efforts, UVI CELL continues to champion education as a pathway to rehabilitation and reintegration, embodying the belief that knowledge is the foundation of freedom.

This recognition highlights the forward-thinking leadership of Dr. Suzanne Darrow-Magras, director of UVI CELL. Under her guidance, UVI CELL has become a trailblazer in reentry education, ensuring that formerly incarcerated individuals in the U.S. Virgin Islands receive the resources and opportunities necessary to rebuild their lives.

A Global Movement for Justice Reform

The Global Freedom Fellowship is more than an award—it is a movement. Fellows will engage with South Africa’s rich history of justice reform, visiting Robben Island, Soweto, and the country’s pioneering prison-university partnerships. They will join a global network of leaders working to reshape justice systems through education, advocacy, and innovative rehabilitation efforts.

A Landmark Event at the Nelson Mandela Foundation

The 2025 Global Freedom Fellowship will conclude with an impactful event at the Nelson Mandela Foundation in Johannesburg on March 25, 2025. Media representatives, policymakers, and community leaders from around the world will gather to hear from the Global Freedom Fellows, amplifying their work and igniting conversations about creating a more just and equitable future.
