About CMES

Ideally situated in the United States Virgin Islands, CMES was established in 1999 with the mission to offer students and researchers a dynamic atmosphere to study tropical marine and environmental issues and increase awareness about marine topics in the VI. Located on both campuses of the University of the Virgin Islands, CMES is a multi-disciplinary research unit with the University's College of Science and Mathematics component.

The faculty of CMES uses its unparalleled access to diverse tropical marine environments to engage in a variety of field and lab based research projects. Our goal is to provide much needed information to scientists, managers, and other stake-holders in the public and private sector by harnessing our collective expertise in areas ranging from coral reef ecology to oceanography and terrestrial ecology, while increasing diversity and inclusion in marine science and other geo-sciences.
