Boston University Chobanian and Avedisian School of Medicine Early Medical School Selection Program
The Early Medical School Selection Program (EMSSP) is designed to provide an early
and decompressed transition into the medical school curriculum through provisional
acceptance into medical school at the completion of two years of undergraduate study.
The Boston University School of Medicine is an urban school with a decidedly urban
mission. Its primary mission is to prepare students for primary care and general medicine
practice in urban settings.
Students accepted into the Boston University School of Medicine Early Medical School
Selection Program remain at their undergraduate colleges through their junior year
and pursue programs of study that will best prepare them to spend their senior year
at Boston University. Students enroll in at least one six-week summer course at Boston
University in each of two summers prior to spending their senior year at Boston University.

Admission
Admission to the program is based on the student's academic record; letters of recommendation;
scope and quality of college and community activities; minimum combined SAT scores
of 1000 or minimum ACT composite score of 22; and other factors such as personality,
character, and maturity of the applicant. To be eligible for the Early Medical School
Selection Program a student must be a United States citizen or permanent resident
and have the recommendation of his or her premedical advisor.
Students must apply for admission to the program during their sophomore or junior year of college. Courses required for application to the program include one year of biology (with laboratory) and one year of general chemistry (with laboratory) in addition to the normal distribution of courses in the humanities and social sciences. Applicants must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 in science courses and a 3.0 in non-science courses with no grade lower than a C in any courses.Competitive applicants are invited to the Boston University School of Medicine in the spring for interviews by two members of the Early Medical School Selection Program Admissions Committee. Admissions decisions are mailed to applicants on or around April 15th. Students accepted into the program are required to participate in two six-week summer programs at Boston University, one following their sophomore year and one following their junior year.
