UVI Research and Technology Park

NIH NIGMS RISE Grant

Mission

Research Initiative for Scientific Enhancement (RISE) promotes support for students in developing careers in biomedical applications. Talented students seeking Bachelor degrees in Biology, Nursing, Psychology, Biology, Computer Science, Mathematics, and Marine Biology are eligible for the program. RISE is funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and is administered by program director Dr. Teresa Turner. ECS scholars supported by RISE must be interested in a career in biomedical research, work closely with faculty mentors on research projects, receive funding to work with off-island mentors during the summer and fulfill specific responsibilities. Students interested should visit our RISE Research Scholars page for more details.

Goals & Objectives

  1. Engage participants, build their intellectual capacity, and provide continuous support
  2. Generate positive institutional change that impacts supported departments such that the percentage of students enrolling in doctoral programs increases
