Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative Program

The University of the Virgin Islands has subscribed to the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) Program to educate faculty, staff, and students about the ethical and regulatory requirements for conducting research. 

Individuals conducting research at UVI may be required to complete CITI Program courses in one or more of the following areas:  

  • Human Subjects Research
  • Institutional Animal Care and Use
  • Responsible Conduct of Research 
  • Conflict of Interest

CITI Program certificates are renewable every 3 years.

To self-register for an account in CITI, on the citiprogram.org homepage, click on the “Register” button. Instructions for registering and CITI course selection can be found at the Sponsored Programs: Your Resource Hub site 

If you have registered before, click on “Log In.”  If you are registered with another university log in with your existing credentials. You will be able to affiliate with UVI after you log in.

Principal investigators and key personnel conducting research with human participants are required to submit a copy of their CITI certificate with their application to the IRB.

How do I complete the CITI refresher course?

The CITI Basic Course certification expires after three (3) years at which time the CITI Refresher Course must be taken to maintain certification. Sixty (60) days before your Completion Report expires, you will receive an automatically generated reminder notice via e-mail directly from CITI. The notice includes instructions about how to complete the refresher course
