Alliance for Responsive Investment in Children's Health: Virgin Islands (A RICH VI)

Administration for Children and Families Grant

Project Summary:

The Administration for Children and Families, Department of Health and Human Services awarded funding to UVI's Caribbean Exploratory Research Center (CERC) for a cooperative agreement between CERC and the V. I Department of Human Services to support research aimed at increasing the overall quality, delivery and outcomes of human services programs in the territory. There is a paucity of research on the efficacy of Head Start programs and no research on the quality or impact of the Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) program in the U. S. Virgin Islands. The proposed project seeks to fill critical gaps in the research on the human service needs and assets, and to identify the most efficacious approaches to improve the quality of life for the residents who participate in the Head Start and TANF programs.

Objectives:

  • By the end of 2017, establish an accessible comprehensive research infrastructure to support the provision of quality human services programs to clients in the Head Start and Temporary Assistance to Needy Families programs in the US Virgin Islands.
  • By the end of 2017, conduct two human services research studies.
