Who is affected by the 8% salary repayment?
- The 8% salary reduction withheld by legislation affected all eligible employees whose
salaries were reduced during July 2011 through July 2013 (reduction period). Employees
earning $26,000 or less at the time were not affected.
Employees who may have worked during the reduction period for other governmental agencies,
including both territorial hospitals, the Central Government, and Waste Management
Authority should reach out to those entities to determine repayment. Repayment funds
are not transferable between entities.
How is the repayment amount determined?
- Our Human Resources Team relies on the data gathered from our BANNER payroll system
to identify eligible employees who were affected during the reduction period. The
amount of repayment is determined by:
- length of time employed during the reduction period
- pre 8% salary
- the actual 8% reduced salary
- salary adjustments that may have occurred during the reduction perio
What taxes are scheduled to be deducted from the repayment?
- Taxes withheld will include Medicare, and Social Security along with USVI Income Tax.
Retirement contributions are excluded from repayment funding.
When should I expect repayment?
- Our HR and Payroll Teams are working diligently to repay all active employees by December
31, 2021.
Is there a way to review the amount of repayment?
- Our HR Team will create a special payroll and an 8% salary repayment identifier on
BANWEB to allow our active employees access to review their repayment amount.

When will former employee receive the 8% repay?
- Former employees who complete and submit the 8% Salary Repayment Form via t.ly/PwPq on or before December 13, 2021, will receive repayment by the end of 2021.
- All former employees are scheduled to receive their repayment no later than January
31, 2022 using their address and direct deposit information received and recorded
in the University’s payroll system.
- Representative(s) of a deceased employee will need to contact the University via 8%repay@uvi.edu. Payment will be distributed accordingly.
What deductions will come out of my repayment check?
- FED- Income Taxes
- FIC – Social Security
- FIM - Medicare
Are retirement contributions being deducted?
- Retirement contributions are excluded from repayment funding.
I would like to receive my payment by Direct Deposit. How can I do this?
- Please fill out the Direct Deposit section of the 8% salary repayment form via t.ly/PwPq. This form will need to be completed and submitted by December 13, 2021 to receive
payment by December 31, 2021 or by January 16, 2022 to receive payment by January
31, 2022.
- Any information received after January 16, 2022, will not be accepted.
- If you have not updated your address or Direct Deposit information by the cutoff date
of January 16, 2022, we will use the address on file.
How do I know if you have a current mailing address on file?
- Please update your current address on the 8% Salary Repayment Form via t.ly/PwPq.
- This form will need to be completed and submitted by December 13, 2021 or January
16, 2022.
- If you have not updated your address or completed the Direct Deposit section on the
form, we will use the address on file.
I live on the island. Can I come and pick up my check?
- Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 protocols, we will not be allowing anyone to pick up
their checks in person.

- Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 protocols, we will not be allowing anyone to pick up
their check in person.
- UVI employees will not be allowed to pick up anyone’s check.
