About
Founded in 1962, UVI is a public, co-ed, land-grant HBCU in the United States Virgin Islands.
The institution has benefited from the generosity of a phenomenal number of donors, partners, collaborators, foundations, and grantors of scholarships. Regardless of how large or small, these contributions have made and continue to make higher education affordable and accessible to the people of the Virgin Islands, the Caribbean and the world.
While the Fourth Legislature passed Act 852 which paved the way for the creation of the College, now University, the institution is appreciative of the support it has received from all subsequent legislatures, all governors since Ralph M. Paiewonsky, and all delegates to congress. UVI’s sustained success is attributed to the steadfast commitment and dedication of our students, staff, faculty and alumni.
UVI deeply appreciates each and every gift from our valued alumni, students, friends and the communities we serve. Your incredible generosity promotes scholarship offerings for current students, helps to fund scholarly endeavors for faculty and academic programs, and enhances current facilities. UVI values your contributions and we operate in accordance to the Donor Bill of Rights.
We recognize annual gifts from individuals, businesses, and foundations that support all areas of the University. Grouped by giving level, donors are acknowledged in the President’s Report. For all levels, recognition is determined by gifts made between October 1 and September 30 of each fiscal year.

Class Campaigns
Annually, UVI graduating classes promote on-campus philanthropy through contributions made in honor of their accomplishments and overall experiences. During commencement, graduates show their pride by wearing class philanthropy honor cords. We’re building this culture of philanthropy which has resulted in annual increases in class giving rates:
