About
Founded in 1962, UVI is a public, co-ed, land-grant HBCU in the United States Virgin Islands.
The Self-Study Design is a roadmap for organizing and guiding institutional review processes in accordance with the MSCHE requirements for accreditation. The Self-Study Design (SSD) is presented in a document to communicate plans with UVI constituents, the MSCHE Commission Staff Liaison, and the MSCHE Team Chair. The plan describes the development of the Self-Study framework including the organizational structure for committees and working groups and charges given to each, the guidelines for interim reports that will informal the final Self-Study report, and processes and oversight for collecting evidence to support the assessment of UVI operations. The activities of the Working Groups are centered around the accreditation standards defined by MSCHE, the institutional priorities identified by UVI, and the intended outcomes established by both MSCHE and UVI.
MSCHE establishes standards for accreditation and requirements of affiliation to guide institutions in conducting the self review and assessment required for initial accreditation and its reaffirmation. Accredited institutions are expected to demonstrate compliance with the seven (7) standards and fifteen (15) requirements of affiliation. Each standard is briefly defined and accompanied by criteria describing the characteristics the standard encompasses.
UVI's current goals and objectives are mission-driven and are prioritized in the 2018-2023 Strategic Plan. In reviewing the Institution's performance in accordance with the MSCHE, UVI is required to identify three or four relevant and achievable priorities that will be addressed in the current Self-Study review. The Institution's stated intended outcomes communicate how the self-study will be used to evidence compliance with MSCHE accreditation standards and affiliation requirements. The outcomes identify various MSCHE requirements and opportunities for UVI to meet key institutional goals.
