About
Founded in 1962, UVI is a public, co-ed, land-grant HBCU in the United States Virgin Islands.
On Thursday, March 31 at 10 a.m., the University of the Virgin Islands will be celebrating the culmination of its March Charter Month with an exciting Charter Day Ceremony. The in-person event will take place in the Administration & Conference Building (ACC) on the Orville E. Kean Campus on St. Thomas.
It will also be streamed live on the UVI website.
This year's 60th anniversary celebration will feature wonderful music performances led by our Music Department Chair, Dion Parson, as well as other musicians from our faculty and students.
Dr. Robert Franklin Jr., Distinguished Professor of Theology at Emory University and President Emeritus of Morehouse College, will address the important subject of “Moral Leadership and the History and Role of HBCUs” as our keynote speaker. This theme builds on his most recent book, “Moral Leadership: Integrity, Courage, Imagination.”
President Hall will unveil an announcement on how UVI plans to honor the “Legacy of Addie Ottley” through various academic and service initiatives. The ceremony will also recognize Dr. Yvonne E.L. Thraen, Trustee Emerita, who recently retired from the Board and was one of the Board's longest-serving members.
You are invited to come out and be a part of what will be a special and festive Charter Day Ceremony as we celebrate our 60th anniversary all year.
The event will conclude with music, refreshments, and an ice cream social on both campuses.
