UVI Announces Restructuring for Administration and Finance Component

UVI President Dr. David Hall announced to the University community last week that, effective June 1, 2014, the Administration and Finance Component was restructured.

A new position of associate vice president (AVP) for Business and Fiscal Affairs, reporting to the vice president for administration and finance/CFO, was created to provide leadership and oversight of the business and fiscal affairs of the University. Under the new structure, the component’s Accounting, Purchasing, Campus Housing, STT Bookstore and STT Business Services (Cashier and Mailroom) functions report to the AVP. Other functions such as Physical Plant and Security on the St. Thomas campus, which previously reported to the Director of Campus Operations - STT, now report directly to the Vice President for Administration and Finance/CFO. As a result, the Director of Campus Operations position on the St. Thomas Campus has been, in effect, eliminated. Candidates for the AVP position, at the invitation of a search committee, will be visiting in the next few weeks and employees are encouraged to meet them and submit assessments of each.

It was also noted that the Benefits Office is now a part of the Human Resources Department. Director of Benefits Valena “Veda” Richards will continue to provide benefits services. Her office is located in the Human Resources suite on the first floor of the Administration and Conference Center on the St. Thomas campus. She can also be reached via e-mail at or by telephone at (340) 693-1429.
