Bucs Fall to Central Bayamon; Paradise Jam Championship Game Today; Women’s Tourney Up Next

Fans of UVI’s Bucs lost their pre-season, Paradise Jam match up with LAI foe University of Central Bayamon, 100-93, in overtime on Saturday, Nov. 22. The hard fought game was played in front of an enthusiastic crowd. The Bucs’ scoring was led by Chris Lockhart, with 26, and Trevonte LaRose, with 21, and Chase Thomas, with 13. The men’s section of the 15th annual edition of the NCAA Division I Paradise Jam Tournament on St. Thomas concludes today (Nov. 24), with the championship game between Seaton Hall and Illinois State at 10 p.m. in the UVI Sports and Fitness Center.

Action in the women’s tournament follows later this week, from Nov. 27-29. Eight teams in two divisions will be competing. Island Division teams are Clemson University, Florida Gulf Coast University, Ohio State University and Wichita State University. Teams playing in the Reef Division are University of Illinois, the University of Kentucky, the University of Oklahoma and the University of South Florida. Games begins at 2:15 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 27, when Clemson takes on Ohio State.

The Paradise Jam website –, has details on game schedules and information on TV coverage and web access. Tickets are available at the UVI Bookstore, Champs at the Tutu Park Mall and at the door. Ticket prices at the door are: $5 for VI children and students – ages 5 to 18 (including UVI students with ID); $10 for V.I. senior citizens 65 or older and military personnel; $15 for V.I. adult residents with local ID; and $35 for non-V.I. residents.
