16th Fall Student Research Symposium Set Sept. 21 on St. Thomas Campus

UVI’s College of Science and Mathematics invites the University community and the general public to the 16th Annual Fall Student Research Symposium, from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 21, at the Administration and Conference Center on the St. Thomas Campus. Some forty undergraduate and graduate students will make poster presentations to display the results of their recent research.

The symposium provides a showcase of student research conducted with faculty at UVI and other institutions. UVI hosts student researchers each summer on both campuses. Many other students conduct their research at institutions such as Boston University, the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, Western Michigan University, the University of California, San Diego, Brookhaven National Laboratory, and NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center.

The symposium is a collaborative effort between the Emerging Caribbean Scientists (ECS) Program and the College of Science and Mathematics. The ECS Program works to increase research training and promote excellence for students majoring in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), psychology and nursing programs at UVI. It also provides funding opportunities for student research through the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
