The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) has appointed Virgin Islands healthcare professional, Charlene Navarro, to be the director of the UVI Medical Simulation Center, bringing the University one step closer to opening the state-of the-art medical education facility currently under construction on the Albert A. Sheen Campus on St. Croix. Slated to open this summer, the UVI Medical Simulation Center will provide an immersive medical simulation experience to UVI students, as well as continuing education and certification courses for local and visiting healthcare professionals.

The University of the Virgin Islands’ St. Thomas Campus has been renamed the “Dr. Orville E. Kean Campus of the University of the Virgin Islands,” to honor and commend UVI President Emeritus Orville E. Kean for more than three decades of extensive service and contributions to the University and the Virgin Islands.

Members of the media are invited to cover the University of the Virgin Islands Fifty-Sixth Annual Commencement Ceremony at 1 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 11, virtually. This online commencement ceremony will be a first for the University and will feature the 2020 graduates from the Albert A. Sheen and the St. Thomas Campuses.

Students, Faculty and Staff to Return to Campus in Spring 2021

The University of the Virgin Islands Athletics Department has made the decision to cancel its playing season for Spring 2021 due to surging COVID-19 cases across the United States.

The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) joins the Virgin Islands community in mourning the loss of Ruth Elma Thomas, a widely respected linguist and educator who received numerous honors and awards for her outstanding achievements in education and community service.

Dance instructors from the University of the Virgin Islands’ (UVI) Department of Communication and Performing Arts are presenting virtual dance workshops this month to highlight the dance techniques and academic studies offered in the newly launched Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) dance program. The workshops are offered free of charge to the public, and high school students are encouraged to participate. 

The public is invited to participate in a free virtual three-day Produce Safety Alliance Training and Certification event on Dec. 1 – 3, 2020. The training will take place via the Zoom platform.
