Members of the media are invited to cover and photograph the University of the Virgin Islands Spring 2025 Student Convocation featuring the United States Supreme Court Justice the Honorable Ketanji Brown Jackson from 3 to 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 7, in the Elridge Wilburn Blake Sports and Fitness Center on the Orville E. Kean Campus on St. Thomas. The event will be live streamed to a close circuit feed in the Great Hall on the Albert A. Sheen Campus on St. Croix.

The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) will mark the historic inauguration of its sixth President Dr. Safiya George with a series of events culminating with the official Investiture Ceremony on Monday, March 17, at 10 a.m. in the Elridge W. Blake Sports and Fitness Center on the Orville E. Kean Campus on St. Thomas. As part of the inauguration celebration, UVI will commemorate the 63rd anniversary of its charter when the University was formed by an act of the Legislature of the Virgin Islands in 1962.

n preparation for the annual Afternoon on the Green celebration on Sunday, March 16, 2025, which benefits the Edward Thomas Volunteer Scholarship Fund, the event planning committee is accepting student scholarship applications to attend the University of the Virgin Islands (UVI). Additionally, cooks, caterers and restaurants are invited to participate in the event’s taste-testing competition that showcases the creativity and skill of local culinary artists.

The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) will host the public memorial and celebration of life service for President Emeritus Dr. Orville E. Kean on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at 10 am in the Elridge W. Blake Sports and Fitness Center on the Orville E. Kean Campus on St. Thomas. Dr. Kean, who passed away at the age of 86 on January 19, 2025, was the University’s third president from 1990 to 2002.

The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) has announced the addition of two accomplished professionals to its leadership team.  Sharon Amey has joined UVI as the Internal Auditor, and Ian M. Roach has assumed the role of Special Assistant to the President. Both individuals bring a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to serving the Virgin Islands community. 

The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) mourns the passing of its third president, Dr. Orville E. Kean, who was appointed by the UVI Board of Trustees to serve as President in 1990. He held the position for 12 years until his retirement in 2002. In recognition of his accomplishments, leadership, and impact on the development of the University during his tenure, Dr. Kean was conferred the status of President Emeritus upon his retirement

Members of the media are invited to cover and photograph a signing ceremony commemorating the launch of a partnership agreement between the University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) School of Agriculture (SOA) and H. Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC) on Tortola, British Virgin Islands that will establish a combined degree program leading to Bachelor of Science Degrees in Agricultural Business, Agroecology, Animal Science, Aquaponics, and Horticulture.

In its first production of the year, the Reichhold Center for the Arts (RCA) is pleased to present the next event in its RCA Sessions series, a musical concert on Friday, Jan. 31. “Sessions on the Floor” will take place at the Elridge W. Blake Sports and Fitness Center at the University of the Virgin Islands’ (UVI) Orville E. Kean Campus on St. Thomas. Guests will enjoy a cocktail hour at 7 pm including light bites and music by DJ Pete.

The U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), in collaboration with the Every Page Foundation (EPF), recognized 22 women science leaders as the 2024 NSF-EPF Ocean Decade Champions. Of those 22 women, three are from the University of the Virgin Islands (UVI). Dr. Marilyn Brandt, UVI Research Professor of Marine and Environmental Sciences, Dr. Kristin Grimes, UVI Research Associate Professor of Marine and Environmental Sciences, and Allie Durdall, Program Manager of GRROE USVI Mangroves were honored for their research, conservation work, education, and community outreach programs in the areas of coral reef disease, mangrove restoration and coastal resilience.
