The Prime Minister of Denmark, Lars Løkke Rasmussen, arrived at the University of the Virgin Islands on the morning of April 1, bearing gifts: An announcement that the Danish government will establish a scholarship program for students from the University of the Virgin Islands to study at a Danish university for one semester.

The University of the Virgin Islands-led project, “Supporting Emerging Aquatic Scientists (SEAS) Your Tomorrow” program was chosen out of 36 grants distributed across the country to be featured in the National Science Foundation (NSF) Inclusion across the Nation of Communities of Learners of Underrepresented Discoverers in Engineering and Science (INCLUDES): Envisioning Impact Video Showcase.

Two hundred and fifty thousand dollars were pledged to the University of the Virgin Islands for scholarships in the name of Rachel Hamilton, a UVI alum and treasured employee of Territory East Asset Management, LLC (“TEAM Consulting”), a longtime St. Croix company and beneficiary of the Economic Development Commission (EDC) program.
