The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI), the University of Puerto Rico Comprehensive Cancer Center (UPRCCC), and the University of Puerto Rico Medical Sciences Campus (UPRMSC) announced the launch of the Caribbean Climate Change Adaptation, Cancer, and Health Disparities Research Center (CARIB-CARES), on Tuesday at UVI’s LaVerne Ragster Administration and Conference Center Building.

Virgin Islands youth are invited to the EmpowerU Youth Summit 2025 at 9 a.m. on The EmpowerU Youth Summit on March 1, 2025, at the 13D Research and Innovation Center on the Orville E. Kean Campus on St. Thomas and on March 15, 2025, on St. John Community Resource and Development Center, St. John Marketplace 2nd floor. This transformative summit is designed to inspire, educate, and equip students ages 12-18 with the tools and skills they need to succeed in their academic, personal, and professional lives.

The Recovery Innovation Coordinator and Center of Excellence (RICCE), a program of the Democratic Training Institute, is partnering with the University of the Virgin Islands Center for Excellence in Leadership and Learning (UVI CELL) to offer nonprofit professionals a free online workshop titled "Tools for Grant Award Implementation: Turning Awards into Achievements”. The workshop will take place on Thursday, Feb. 20, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. AST.

A video released this week highlights the efforts of dedicated community volunteers to clean up marine debris from the “forgotten shorelines” of the U.S. Virgin Islands’ (USVI) mangroves and offshore cays. These areas, rarely included in cleanups, face a persistent challenge with marine debris.
UVI & NOAA Conduct Survey on the Uses, Knowledge, and Perceptions of Coral Reefs

The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) Eastern Caribbean Center is collaborating with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to facilitate local surveying efforts on St. Thomas, St. Croix, and St. John. The NOAA National Coral Reef Monitoring Program is engaging local surveyors to conduct a USVI-wide survey that will collect information on residents’ use of coral reefs and their knowledge, attitudes, and perceptions of coral reef ecosystems and coral reef management.

The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) School of Agriculture has signed an articulation agreement with the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC) to establish combined degree programs leading to Bachelor of Science degrees in Agricultural Business, Agroecology, Animal Science, Aquaponics, and Horticulture. The signing ceremony took place in January 2025 at UVI’s Albert A. Sheen Campus on St. Croix.
