The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) has announced the appointment of Michael J. Morsberger as its new Vice President for Institutional Advancement, effective Oct. 1, 2024. With a distinguished career in healthcare and higher education at several of the nation’s premier academic health systems and nonprofits, Morsberger is set to lead UVI’s advancement initiatives, encompassing alumni relations, development, public relations, and the Reichhold Center for the Arts.

Patterson brings her experience and expertise to the coaching staff after playing for the team during the 2023-2024 season. The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) is reimagining its future, and the public is invited to participate in the process. Members of the community are encouraged to attend one of three agile strategic planning sessions scheduled on Tuesday, Oct. 1, in the LaVerne Ragster Administration and Conference Center on the Orville E. Kean Campus on St. Thomas; Wednesday, Oct. 9, in the Great Hall on the Albert A. Sheen Campus on St. Croix; and Thursday, Oct. 10 on St. John at a location to be announced shortly. All sessions begin at 6 p.m.

Sponsored by 13D Research & Strategy, this university-wide competition invites students to tackle real-world problems and propose groundbreaking solutions, with cash prizes ranging from $500 to $1,000 for the top ideas.

One long-term and four short-term fellowships are available for the University of the Virgin Islands’ (UVI) Securing STEM Island Pathways (SSIP) Program, which offers new job opportunities and graduate study options for qualified graduates from UVI. SSIP, specifically designed to address the uncertain employment prospects faced by Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) degree recipients in the U.S. Virgin Islands, is made possible thanks to a $1 million grant from the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) awarded in 2022 and implemented by UVI in 2023.
